
A facility to generate and print documents, either individually or in batches, is provided. An easy to use editor is also included, so there is no need for an external editor or any other separate facility.
The internal editor allows the document to be fully formatted and enables images, such as a company logo, a signature or a photograph, to be embedded in the document.
A set of standard document templates are available. These are normally maintained by the administrator.
The normal user merely selects the most appropriate document template, edits it if required, and then prints it off.
Each document template is selected in the context of a particular customer, so various fields, such as the customer's name and address, are merged automatically.
Each document may be printed on a local printer or sent as either a fax or an email.
If it's printed on a local printer, then either pre-printed stationery or plain stationery can be used. If plain stationery is used, then images representing the company's headed paper can be embedded in the document.
If the document is sent as a fax or an email, then the company's logo can again be embedded in the document.
As every document is generated and printed in the context of an action for a particular customer, a copy of it is attached automatically to that action. This allows the user to review every document that's been sent in the context of the customer's action history.
Once the document has been printed, the action is marked as completed, so that the contents of the document cannot be changed. Duplicate copies can still be printed off if required.
